CD Reviews

"I buy a lot of CDs that I've never heard, based upon intuition, reserach, even reviews. Many times I've gotten one, two, or three star music but sometimes I luck out, like I did on this album, and get a five star album. I sometimes peruse the plethora of music lists on Amazon and about 10 days ago I was doing just that, when this album, (one of a list of ten) caught my eye. Of course the author of the list said it was great, what author of a list wouldn't, but what else caught my attention was the price. Now I don't consider myself a cheap person but I do like a good value. This album was apparantly being closed out for it was only ... new! Of course there are inexpensive stinkers out there so I decided to check a couple reviews and low and behold it got good reviews. Of course buying something based on a review is only marginally better than telling someone to send you what they like, but I had a feeling, and it was only ... plus shipping, so I splurged.
Well I'm pleased to tell you I got it right!
I received The Lake 5 days ago and I couldn't be more pleased.
I'll admit that my expectations were low but on the same day I also received a very good 'Clone' by 'Threshold' and I like this better. Where have these guys been? This is supposedly their third album but I've never heard of them. Only the author of the ten item list seems to have heard of them. Ok, so he's an ex disc jockey and they're from Germany but so are Blind Guardian, Rammstein, Edguy, Haggard and umpteen other groups I have heard of.Bottom line is this is a very fine album that you can get on the cheap. The music is very good progessive rock/metal, sometimes remindinding me of Queenryche(especially the singing), and somtimes a little like Dream Theater. It's some kind of concept album, I can tell because the singer talks in between about three of the songs (thank god he can sing because he talks in a monotone, like he's reading a piece of paper).
Enough of this rambleing on. Chances are no one will ever read this review because these guys are as obscure as my sons band, but if you happen to read this, take note, I've given you the ball, now run with it."
Pretty Impressed, but not what I expected...

"I stumbled across this album entirely by accident. I read the single review this album had on it at the time, and was fairly hopeful. And plus I bought it brand new for $2.89.(what a steal)

I didn't expect to hear what I heard when I heard it for the first time. I didn't dislike it, but I was expecting something more heavy. I think this band has serious potential to hit it big, if (yes there is an if) they would turn themselves loose. This album is much softer than anything you would get from Dream Theater. I was sort of expecting Dream Theater worship, but it's not.

The one thing I am not attracted to are the vocals. The other reviewer compared them to Queensryche, I will disagree. Tate has a much stronger and better voice in my oppinion. I think the voice is the weakest part of the album, but they aren't really bad, just average.

I'm not going to ramble on about this much, as the odds of people reading it aren't too good. If you are reading this, I reccomend you buy this CD and give it a try, I see them as a bit of a Marillion meets Dream Theater. What do you have to loose? It is cheap and in my oppinion, it is good.
