Wayne Marshall is an awesome pianist, adept at both the classical and jazz repertoires. Believe it or not, his is the only CD available that brings together all of Gershwin's music for piano and orchestra. Even better, these are some of the best performances of Gershwin's music that you will ever hear. Although he remains generally faithful to Gershwin's own text, Marshall plays the music as if he had composed it himself, with a true improvisational flair. He's also tremendous technically: the finale of the Piano Concerto, for example, is simply a scorcher, and he's got a fine Danish orchestra backing him to the hilt. This disc is a major addition to the Gershwin discography and a tribute to a terrific musician who really deserves to be better known. --David Hurwitz
