Synopsis

Album Description
2008 three CD set. Composer Giovanni Battista Sammartini has often been described as the 'symphony's father'. The works stand between Baroque and Classicism and boast a wide variety of intermediary nuances and masterly stylistic mixes, making the works particularly precious musical gems. He composed a total of sixty-nine symphonies up until his death in 1775. One third of Sammartini's symphonies can now be enjoyed in this set. These first-ever recordings of his early symphonies for string orchestra were made in 1994. The works were performed by the young ensemble I Giovani di Nuova Cameristica, formed by members from the renowned ensemble Nuova Cameristica and conducted by Daniele Ferrari. The harpsichord was played by the Milan organist Riccardo Villani. Nuova Era.
