FRUIT - Wonderful Australian Group ROCKS Weather Girl | 02/10/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "I am from a small town in Northern California and FRUIT has stopped here a few times in the past year. They play in small venues and they even agreed to play in my friends coffee shop. They are a wonderful blend of rock and harmony and wonderfully talented. Sam, Mel and Susie are the AMAZING female vocalists who feed off eachother. The "boys" are great too. There are two of them and I have heard the girls play alone and also with the boys. Either way they were outstanding. Each of these young women have their own CD's as well. Mel plays horns and is such an outstanding musician. Susie and Sam play guitar like there is no tomorrow and they all have knock out voices. I highly recommend any of their CD's. This album is an awesome snapshot if you can't make it to a Fruit show, if you need a fix between gigs or to remember what would have certainly been one of the best evenings of music of your life if you have experienced a fruit show.
The highlight of this album for me was "Mamma Mamma"... Mel Watson gives her all with her trumpet and her voice and this track captures a moment of Mel perfectly. The Basement is a great Sydney venue, and you can feel that the girls (and guy) are comfortable there. The ABC in Australia ran this show as part of their TV series "Live at The Basement" but they have not yet made it available on DVD, so we'll have to make do with the CD for now.
