SATIE's SOCRATE for voice & piano...

This nice disc features virtually the only currently available version of Satie's magnum opus SOCRATE in Satie's own version for tenor vocalist and piano. (The work's ultimate version is for four sporanos and chamber ensemble Socrate and Melodies .

This version with classic French vocalist Hugues Cuenod accompanied by the fine Geoffrey Parsons presents a wondrous "x-ray" of Satie's masterpiece.

(Don't let the classic '50s cover publicity-photo of Cuenod fool you: this recording was done in the late-'80s for English label Nimbus.)

Other mélodies by Satie, Chabrier, and Roussel bonus, but the real star here is SOCRATE.
