CD Reviews

Lost treasures from the Free Design
W. Davidson | Melbourne, Australia | 01/05/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This was the first of the excellent Free Design compilations (followed by "Raindrops" and "Umbrellas") released by the delightful Spanish CD label "Siesta". It is of course, *essential*.There's just too much great pop on this CD - 2002 A Hit Song is a knockout (as I write this there's still time for the FD to realise the elusive hit single for 2002!), there's My Brother Woody, the dynamic Now Is The Time and Felt So Good reminds me a bit of those 60's musicals like 'Godspell' and 'Pippin' only better - all trumpets blaring and groovy pop. There's only two cover versions on this CD (Howjadoo and Never Tell The World) all other songs are by The Free Design mastermind Chris Dedrick. This CD also contains my all-time favourite FD song I'm A Yogi, wonderful popstuff complete with sitars, phasers and hippy trippy lyrics.

There's so much more, also the songs just grow and grow on you (whether you like it or not so beware!). The FD have a Carpenters-esque vibe about them which is easy, easy, easy but rocks too!"
