Synopsis

Amazon.com
Though they hail from the northern reaches of the Midwest, the Freddy Jones Band plays a brand of rock more typically associated with Southern outfits such as the Allman Brothers and the Dave Matthews Band. Even in their more standard bar-band mode, they come off as slightly funkier, more vocally accomplished version of Hootie and the Blowfish. Geography be damned, however, Lucid brings together some of the rootsy group's best musical elements, including the memorable melodies and high-harmony arrangements of "Wonder" and "Better Tomorrow." "Mystic Buzz" is a little more sonically far- reaching, while "California" proves the band knows its way around a lush ballad. All things considered, Lucid is the Freddy Jones Band's most impressive effort since their self-titled debut. --Daniel Durchholz

CD Reviews

Watch out DMB here comes FJB!
Jared Sheer (candham@mail.eclipse.n | NYC METRO | 11/05/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"WOW. That about sums it up. If the Freddy Jones Band gets a break, then they will be HUGE. If you like Dave Matthews, Guster, or Blue Traveler then FJB is right up your ally."
Great from start to finish
Robby V | 08/24/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This was my first taste of FJB, and there is no other CD of the several hundred we own that I truly love from start to finish - there is not one song that I ever skip over when I listen to it. The listening gets better over time as the subtle complexities of the vocals and the guitars start to sink in. It came as a refreshing surprise when I first heard it - the guys have a unique and original sound, which is why we probably never hear them on the radio. While Lucid has a more polished and produced feel to it than North Avenue Wake Up Call, it still did not stike me as "commercial" in the least. It's a great companion on a long road trip."
The Legend of Freddy lives on
Robby V | Pittsburgh, PA | 03/19/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you are unfamiliar with FJB, get this album, it is quintessential. I know many will maintain that Waiting For the Night is the best, but I'm not looking for roots, I'm looking for creativity and evolution in a band. It is a modern tragedy that the Freddy Jones Band broke apart, but their legend will live on in albums that bring you back to heart of music."
