Excellent Live Performance from a Blues Master
P. Jarosz | Gulf Coast, Texas | 04/11/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Taken from a 1974 concert in Germany and a 1976 show at the Texas Opera House, this CD includes one of the best live performances of 'Have You Ever Loved a Woman' ever recorded on CD. It's almost 13 minutes long and Freddie really cooks. The only better version out there is on DVD which is his 1972 Sugarland concert. Not only was Freddie an outstanding blues guitarist who wasn't afraid to turn up the volume and let it loose, but he was also blessed with a powerful, yet smooth & soulful voice. It's no wonder Eric Clapton was heavily influenced by Freddie. The rest of the songs include classics 'Key to the Highway', 'Mojo Boogie', 'Sweet Home Chicago,' and a somewhat mediocre version of 'Hideaway.' One of the Amazon used sellers has this CD for $5.99 (for a new CD) which is an absolute bargain for a live performance of this blues master."
Wonderful playing in a live setting!

"I was given "Are You Ready for Freddie" as a gift. On the album, Freddie King's mastery of the blues is extraordinary! A lot of the album features King's playing rather than his singing. The live recording also features tight, soulful and searing playing from the band he is working with. I have enjoyed listening on the way to work, then coming home to play along with the album until my heart is content. I would have loved to hear a song in a blazing tempo on the album, but hey, who's quibbling? The level of playing is unbelievable! I recommend this album highly if you love classic urban blues. I am even planning to purchase copies for my fellow blues-fan friends!"
Freddie was the best!

"I always loved Freddie King's music, which can be divided into two categories: his earlier stuff on the King label, and his later years, beginning with his albums he made for Leon Russell's Shelter label. This CD is live material from the latter period, when he played a lot of live concerts, although this CD was released long after Freddie died. Great concert recording, Freddie could really play the blues, and sing with all of his heart."
