CD Reviews

The Godfather Will Always Be My DJ Hero
SeanLau99 | Chicago, IL United States | 10/21/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"There are too many great House Music DJs out there but only one Frankie Knuckles. Whenever he plays in Chicago, I break my neck to hear him. He takes you back to that golden era when good House Music made you forget your problems and even helped provide solutions. His selection skills are second to none and that's why he'll always be my DJ hero and The Godfather Of House. With Motivation Too, he does it again. This is a well mixed compilation of uplifting bangers that make you feel good when you listen to them. I love Vernessa Mitchell's Took My Life (Turn It All Around) and I'm especially crazy over the unreleased mix of Grand High Priest's Mary Mary. I remember when FK introduced it at Chicago's Green Dolphin Street almost three years ago and I never stopped looking for it. The whole mix is great but other standouts are A Purpose by Michelle Weeks (I've never heard this remix), Jon Cutler & Jocelyn Brown's heavy hitting One (Morten Trust Dub), and G Club Featuring Haze's Faith with those brilliant Shapeshifters on remix duties. In these times where dogs and cats can mix with the latest software, only the true pioneers and innovators stand out from the pack. Motivation Too is yet another top notch effort from the legendary Frankie Knuckles."
Disappointing

"I'm a big fan of Frankie and own all of his previous releases but this one is a let down.

No shining tracks - just average. Stick to the first CD (Motivation) if you want soulful house music."
