CD Reviews

Beautiful versions of latinoamerican classics.
R. Romero | Somewhere in Canada | 01/11/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Many of these melodies have been covered by other orchestras; however, as a whole, this album is excellent: the kind one must listen to from beginning to end, as a unit. From the opening bells in "Campanitas de Cristal" to the amazing violins in "El Gavilán" (remember Helmut Zacharias's violins in "Porque te Vas"?), this is a must for any Pourcel fan, and together with Mauriat's "Latin Nights" and deBray's "Tangos", my favorite French-orchestra-playing-latin-sounds of all time.[Franck Pourcel died in November 2000. I hope they release on CD his older albums, specially "Pourcelissimo", "L'Enfant Roi", "Paraphonic" and the two most romantic ones, "San Remo '72" and "Un Homme Qui me Plait"]"
El Gavilan=A rare music jewel
Patrick L | Carlsbad, CA United States | 11/21/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In all honesty I must say that the El Gavilan piece is a rare jewel that enriches the memories of any lover of good music. The masterfully arranged interplay of the overwhelming, massive, cascading violins and the clear as crystal solo arpeggios of the Paraguayan harp have a stirring, uplifting effect that reflects the genius of Frank Pourcel as an orchestra creator and conductor and that of the arranger to whom Pourcel entrusted the job. It's a shame it only lasts two uplifting minutes and that the CD is out of stock. I searched and searched and on a business trip I had the good fortune to run into a forgotten copy in a mall in upstate NY."

"My opinion that this album is a very fine work of the great artist, it's nice & easy to listen to. I'd say I love it very much (highly recommended)"
