Synopsis
Album Description Zodiac, Frank Perry's third Celestial Harmonies album (after Deep Peace/New Atlantis), showcases twelve compositions for bells and gongs, one piece for each sign of the zodiac. In addition to oriental bells, Tibetan bells, singing bowls, invocation cymbals, and whistling bowls, nearly all of which came from ancient Buddhist temples, Perry also plays a variety of instruments he designed and built himself--bamboo, stone and bell chimes, a four-foot bamboo flute, and richly vibrating harmonic sound-discs called petalumines, ranging from four to sixteen inches in diameter. Most Western musical compositions are linear, designed for aesthetic entertainment, and based upon equally tempered scales. By contrast, Perry's music is expansively non-linear, based upon revolving patterns of pulsating, intertwining harmonic overtones, designed to awaken one's deepest and highest universal consciousness. CD ReviewsGood for beginner in maditation. 07/06/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "Just relax and listening to this music and you will find peace inside you." Great for meditation, period. jellokomputer | New York, NY United States | 08/01/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "this record helps show that any true meditation is 'beginner' meditation. if you think you are advanced, you are thinking too much. this record helps slow the thinking the process to beginner mind, that is, mind before thinking. the metallic sounds resonate in very subtle overtones that relax the spirit and, if consciously heard, can help focus the mind. another reviewer gave this cd 1 star because he was frustrated that he bought the wrong disc. I hope he found what he was looking for."
