Synopsis

Product Description
You can?t pigeonhole Frank Lee Sprague unless it?s to say that his music is always pure and always passionate. Now, after two powerful, highly acclaimed Merseybeat themed albums, Frank explores another side of his talent on the superb, Fulton Avenue. Although Fulton Avenue is acoustic-based, it is remarkably rich in song structure, with nuanced themes both musically and lyrically. Each song claims its own mood and yet fits together seamlessly. Known for his exquisite ballads, Frank includes several absolute beauties on Fulton Avenue. ?All Too Well,? with its yearning melody, massed chorus and subtle percussion is a classic, the kind of song Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson once wrote and we seldom hear today. Every Frank Lee Sprague album includes songs that sound like automatic top-ten smashes. On Fulton Avenue, first choice would have to be ?Mixed Up,? a mesmerizing sitar-laced psychedelic production, featuring a hypnotic melody that will have you returning to the song over and over again. The album proper ends with ?Turning My Back on You,? an impossibly catchy Beatles-flavored purely acoustic number. You?ll swear Paul and George sing backup. As with any Frank Lee Sprague album, the show isn?t over yet! First we?re treated to Frank?s lovely rendition of Art Garfunkel?s, ?Second Avenue?, here transformed to ?Fulton Avenue,? where Frank lived for many years. As an extra gift, Frank includes two further bonus tracks. No toss-offs, they are spectacular in their own right. ?If Mary,? has a glorious mid-sixties Beach Boys feel, while ?It Won?t Help? reinvents George Harrison?s slide guitar circa 1970 and has all the earmarks of a power pop classic. Don?t forget to stick around for a sneak peak at the prolific Frank Lee Sprague?s next album!

GHOSTLY REFLECTIONS OF LOVE AND LIFE
Scott S. Springer | 04/24/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I'm not quite sure where to start here. Fulton Avenue by Frank Lee Sprague is such an intimate personal kaleidoscope of human emotions that upon hearing it for the first time one realizes that this is a work that could potentially touch your very soul. To begin, all of these songs are wonderful with meaningful lyrics and well constructed melodies. Key elements of Frank's music are the unusual chord changes throughout his tunes that make them unique. I can't tell you how refreshing it is to hear something musically that you've never heard before--a rare occurrence for many and Frank does this again and again. The songs on Fulton Avenue are mostly acoustic based with added instrumentation here and there. And the sheer excellence of Frank's acoustic guitar playing is pure enjoyment. The heartfelt "feeling" he creates in his songs is magical to say the least. As well as the music, Frank's vocal talent is on full display and fits perfectly with each song no matter what the mood. The opening song "Another World" is a soft acoustic number which describes the perfect love that is possible to find. This is followed up by "When I'm Without You" which changes direction and talks of the heartache of loss and separation. "Anaheim Girls" is a look back into the past for a time that will never come again and is expressed like a mournful sigh--a beautiful sadness. It continues this way to the last song. You get vivid descriptions of the pitfalls and triumphs of love and the all too real effects they can have on life and one's emotional well being. Frank seems to say that whether it's a lesson well learned or a future possibility of happiness that love can bring, never stop dreaming and never give up. Besides the 12 official songs on the cd, Frank has added 3 extra tracks which are the equal of anything that has come before. Rarely have I heard or experienced a musical statement that's as open, truthful, and accomplished as this is. Be forewarned, Frank's songs on Fulton Avenue resonate deeply, and yes, straight to your very soul."
