Synopsis

Album Description
Franciscus Bossinensis (ca. 1450-ca. 1550) was a lutenist who gathered songs (frottole) by other composers such as Tromboncino, along with some of his own, transcribed them for lute accompaniment, and published them in the early 1500s. These very collections may be the first popular music ever printed on the new invention of Johannes Gutenberg. Most of the songs have texts by the first great Italian lyric poet, Petrarch.
