Synopsis

Album Description
Many aspiring rappers spend years honing their skills in countless freestyle sessions, but few have the talent and the drive to take it to the next level. This is not the case with Franchize. Franchize, a.k.a. Nate Nitty, throws his cards in the game with his first full-length CD, Season Opener. Steeped in reality rhymes, Season Opener is a diverse yet cohesive, 17-track blend of grimy street anthems, party starters, and thought-provoking hip-hop. "The game is saturated right now," notes the 25-year-old, "so I decided to set up shop and distribute a fresh new style of hip-hop. That's why I call myself Franchize." Season Opener was produced by Nomadic, a young veteran whose past productions include albums by The Sleestackz (Ichiban/EMI), legendary roots reggae group The Congos and remix work for underground hip-hop heads Channel Live, Frukwan (Stetsasonic) and Philly's Ram Squad. "When I first heard Franchize rhyme, I knew he had something special," says Nomadic.! "He was able to display street smarts and intelligence without sounding preachy or like a wannabe gangsta." The album also features guest appearances from hip-hop icon Flavor Flav (Public Enemy) and rising soul siren Chanda Rule, who will be the opening act for Amel Larrieux's (Groove Theory) upcoming tour. Season Opener is being released through a joint venture between Nomadic Trackz and newly formed Deeply Rooted Entertainment. Franchize will be performing throughout NYC in support of the album and it will be available for purchase on the web, in select stores and on a block in your hood soon.

(3 out of 5 stars)

"I bought this CD from the artist personally, who was in Times Square (NYC) hustling to get his name out. He explained that he doesn't rap about guns and drugs, and indeed his topics are refreshing and down to earth. I think he has a lot of potential but, sadly, corporate America (and indeed the mindless masses as well) seems mainly interested in shallow, talentless garbage like Tony Yayo, Ying Yang Twins, etc. Luckily, though, the pendulum usually swings back in the other direction, which means that before long there will be a return to the essence of what quality hip hop is suppossed to be."
