Framing Amy Keeps on Getting Better!
Jeffrey T. Gellendin | Cedarburg, WI United States | 02/05/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I became hooked on Framing Amy after borrowing a friend's copy of "I Have Spoken", their first CD. So much so that a few weeks later I went out and bought "Eureka Phenom". Had I heard this CD first, I wouldn't have waited any time at all to buy a copy for myself. The band's song writing talents have evolved tremendously over the three years between CDs, and I can't wait for the new one they're working on. While the band's alternative pop/rock style doesn't necessarily lend itself to mass market appeal, "Eureka Phenom" starts out with two songs that have serious radio air time possibilities: "Because" and "Makin' Up". "Stay", which was originally written by lead guitarist Thomy Kiesling for his wedding, is the most requested song Framing Amy has for their live performances. A mellow, sweet tune that, when the band play live, invites people to get up, grab their significant other, and dance. "The Day Before" is a dark, eerie tune that sends shivers up my spine every time I listen to it. But my favorite song on the CD is "True Enough". It starts out with just drums, then adds acoustic guitar, then Amy's vocals, and builds to a crescendo when the other two members join in. It's a very powerful song both musically and lyrically, and really showcases Amy Pierce's tremendous vocal talent. I'd buy the CD just for that one song, but, fortunately, you don't have to. Of the 14 tracks, I can honestly say that truly like nine of them. And the other five are not bad songs either. As good as Framing Amy is on CD, you need to catch one of their live shows. The energy they bring to each of their performances is outstanding, and I'd classify them as one of the better bands I've seen live. Catch them if they're in your area."
