CD Reviews

The fabulous four freshmen do it again!

"I recently "rediscovered" this fabulous group.I first saw them in 1950 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. What a great sound! There is no other vocal group like this. The selections are great...especially the solo by Brian Eichenberger on ONCE IN A WHILE. There is also a PBS video..THE FOUR FRESHMEN:FIFTY YEARS FRESH and the soundtrack from this.Start 2000 off right...get all three!"
"Still Fresh" proves Four Freshmen still great!

"This is the best vocal jazz album of the past 20 years. Period. People who thought the Four Freshmen are a nostalgia act are proven wrong by "Still Fresh." Greg Stegeman, Kevin Stout, Brian Eichenberger and Bob Ferreira were a knock-out live act during their years together. But on this studio CD, they step it up another notch! Great singing. Great playing! Great production!Highlights include Greg's remarkable arrangements of "Where Do You Start" and "Moonlight In Vermont. But the best is his unforgettable arrangement of "Unforgettable." The evergreen shines like never before. The Freshmen have a five decade history of great arrangers. Greg proves himself to be one of the greatest Freshmen vocal arrangers ever. And that is saying a lot!The CD features arguably the world's greatest jazz trombone player, Kevin Stout. Brian Eichenberger's piano solo on "Moonlight In Vermont" leaves you wondering why he doesn't play piano more often. Bob Ferreira's vocal solos have left audiences breathless for the past decade. And if you want hot, the album opener, "My Shining Hour," gives a hot new kick to a jazz classic. This is great music done by great young talents. Listen to the samples. I guarantee you will want to buy this excellent CD!"

"With three of the current four on this CD one can see what the group is capable of doing today. Standout new songs include Where Do You Start, More Love, Close Enough For Love. Great arrangements of Moonlight In Vermont, Unforgettable, Walkin My Baby Back Home. Great instrumental work in the Freshmen tradition. A must have for Freshmen fans. I play it almost every day."
