CD Reviews

Good Prog Album -(weak production)
T. Boyce | Bay Area, CA USA | 08/28/2006
(3 out of 5 stars)

"After hearing a Forgotten Suns song on live365.com I just had to find some more of their music. After finding their first album (the one I heard) out of print, I immedietly bought Snooze. It is a 2 disk set, although you could have almost fit both on to one disk...hmmmm. The band is from Portugal, and falls squarely into the Prog Rock/Metal catagory.

Listening to this album reminds me of when I first heard Nursery Chryme by Genesis, or The Yes album. Very inventive and creative but not quite mature yet. These guys really have a great future ahead of them, if they can hold it together. But 4 years between the release of their first two albums does bring up some concerns

The one thing that dissappoints me here is the production. There seems to be an utter lack of high end (air), like it was mastered to cassette tape or mp3 or something. No soundscape either, stereo imaging is poor.Maybe someday they will re-master this album, but until then I hope they find a real producer for their next album.

Recommended - especially if you are into a more international type of progressive music."
Prog, man
N. Nutter | My Study, Deep On The Earth | 08/25/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The sound here is like a cross between Styx's "The Grand Illusion" and Dream Theater's "Images And Words", but with updated production and tunings. (Ironically enough, I'm listening to the album for the first time as I type this. I'm at track 7 right now.)

Since there's no track listing on the page, here's one for your convenience:

1. Dreaming Of Reality (2:43)

2. Senses (9:47)

3. Strange Affair With The Night (8:32)

4. Dream Killers (19:52)

5. Floating Spirit Dimension (1:12)

6. Pay The Price (6:24)

7. Struggle (13:21)

8. Death (1:26)

9. Angel's Embrace (6:27)

10. A Truce (1:31)

11. The Final Sentence (11:09)

It's a pretty good album. Lots of interesting key choices. It leans more towards the harmonius than the hard, though there are some metal moments. I'd recommend it for anyone who's well versed with prog music."
