CD Reviews

Europe's best rap album yet
Peter Cooper | Louth, UK | 01/10/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album is amazing but it saddens me to realize that much of the English speaking world will dismiss great albums if they're in a foreign language.Fonky Family have an amazing knack of creating sample-based hip-hop/rap songs which don't become repetitive and dull, like most of their American counterparts. How many rap groups have a song with a brass section ('Haute Tension') all the way through? How many rap groups have a song that sounds like ELO provided the backing track ('Dans La Legende')? The sound is extremely original for rap music.I'm not really into rap, and I don't understand much French, but this album is so great -musically- that it doesn't matter. This is rap with atmosphere, great sounds and the traditional 'broody' French feeling. It's rap with plenty of minor chords."
Fonky Family drops funky beats
Latifa Jackson | Washington, DC USA | 06/19/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"For all of those into rythmic rapping and driving beats, look no further. The Fonky Family's latest album is delightful from the first track "art de rue" to the last track. There are many artists that front load their album with everything they've got, only to leave you feeling like you wasted your money by track four. This is not that album. Every track is a winner and you won't be disappointed by the rythmic styling of Don Choa, Pone, Sat, Fel, le Rat Luciano (who has just dropped a solo album), Menzo and the excellent scratches of DJ Djel. This is the first album that I bought from Fonky Family, but it definitely won't be the last."
