CD Reviews

Focus - 'Moving Waves' (Capitol)
Mike Reed | USA | 08/30/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"So, this is the album that late night FM radio staple "Hocus Pocus" original appeared on. Another lesser-known band that I haven't gotten around to looking into. 'Moving Waves' first came out in 1971, I remember this tune when I was in junior high. Still holds the test of time. This progressive / art rock Dutch band's main asset appears to be guitarist Jan Akkerman. Tunes here that had me playing this CD reissue over several times were the previously mentioned "Hocus Pocus", the beautifully written "Le Clochard" with "Janis" {the two seem to sort of run together} and the King Crimson {possibly} inspired twenty-three minute "Eruption". Should draw in long time fans of Gentle Giant, early Genesis, Camel and Jethro Tull. Well worth checking out."
