Album Description
Merrie Siegel has been hailed by the U.S. and Mexican press as "magnificent, jovial and radiant, with purity of tone" and "possessing great technical command of the instrument." She is currently the flute professor at the Lionel Hampton School of Music at the University of Idaho; she is a member of the faculty of the Latin American Studies Program at that same institution. She has taught at Houston Community College, and served as Professor of Flute at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon and the Escuela Superior de Musica y Danza, both in Monterrey, Mexico. She has appeared as a soloist and is an active orchestral flute player who has played with the Houston Symphony, the Rochester Philharmonic and the Charleston Symphony, among others. Merrie received her Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and her Bachelor of Music degree from Eastman where she studied with Bonita Boyd. A native of Philadelphia, at 19, she made her New York debut in CAMI Hall as winner of the New York Flute Club's Young Artist Competition.
