Cramer was one of the major exponents of the ''Nashville Sound,'' which blended country and pop, but his influence also extended to traditional country and rock and roll. Cramer was a sideman on recordings by Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Patsy Cline and many others. Cramer also enjoyed a prolific career as a solo artist. He cut fifty instrumental albums and reached number two on the pop charts in 1960 and won a GRAMMY for Best Country Instrumental in 1979.
