A moving program of vocal works inspired by the tragedies of World War I, some of them written by poet-composers who died in the conflict. The album title, In Flanders Fields, is taken from the most famous of all World War I poems, by Lt. Col. John McCrae, a physician in the Canadian Army. Some of the composers are less familiar names, but their music is uniformly beautiful and moving ? a thoughtful selection of great impact. Fiona Kimm is one of the UK?s leading mezzo-sopranos and regularly appears in principal roles at major opera houses including the Royal Opera House, English National Opera and Glyndebourne. She also appears frequently on television in opera broadcasts and has taken part in several royal command performances.
