CD Reviews

Nice set of rare recordings
Steve Pariseau | Santa Maria, CA United States | 07/31/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The once hard to get import Missing Links is now easy to grab. Filled with rare recordings by the Fixx, Missing Links provides gems that span 17 years. "Pushing Myself", "Venture Out", and the original recording of "Going Without" make this CD worth every penny. Those outstanding tracks are accompanied by a cleanly remastered "I've Been Here Before" an extended version of the once rare "Sinking Island", and an instrumental piece called "Crystal Ice Dub" is born from the track "Reach The Beach". The inclusion of Red Skies and Stand or Fall remixes, although unneccessary, is likely a sales gimmik since those tracks are so famous.Nice little compilation. Get yours today!!"
"Missing the point"...

"This CD is actually "Missing Links" (not "Missing Pieces"), with two extra tracks from the original recording of "Elemental"... It is yet another one of those unnecessary albums that seem to plague the Fixx collection (How many versions of "Stand or Fall" or "Red Skies at Night" can one have? Five, six? Now I am on my third of "Two Different Views"...) Ok, there is some really good music on this CD but why not come up with something new instead of rendering the original "Missing Links" useless?"
Only for the diehards

""Sinking Island" and the ext version of "Stand or Fall" are currently available on the remaster of Shuttered Room, and the 'remix' of "Red Skies" is lame. Except for "Venture Out", the other B-sides are weak and it's pretty obvious why they werent albumed. There is, however, a song called "Crystal Ice Dub" which is featured on the flip side of my "One Thing..." 12 inch, then called "Reach the Beach (dub)", which made this little album worthwhile to me as a longtime fan, as I have always enjoyed that so-called 'studio doodle'. Unless youre looking for something specific here, then just skip it."
