CD Reviews

About time this got a proper reissue

"Most people probably know of The Fix as the band who's two record releases sell on Ebay for over $500 a piece. They are also one of the first hardcore bands to come out of the Midwest and released the first record on the Touch and Go records. While not as aggressive or as tight as some of the other early midwestern bands such as Negative Approach, Necros, and the Effigies they more of an influence on them as they preceded them in years and releases. Thats not to diminish their work either, they churned out quality tunes in their short time as a band that is documented here on this CD but it should also be kept in mind that they were a foundation builder for this sound. This is a very nice reissue in the Touch and Go vein with keeping the original production in tact with out the filtered through a toilet bowl sound of the bootlegs that have been circulated around to combat the ridiculously over priced originals. With all that said, this is a much welcome release of an important band in the history of hardcore.

Now if Touch and Go could only get around to releasing the Necros back catalogue, but that is a whole other story..."

"The Fix came & went in a blink of the eye. This is FEROCIOUS Hardcore at its finest, a prime example of the style & attitude of Mid-West Hardcore in the early 1980s.

Essential for fans of SSD, Siege, Necros, Negative Approach, etc...

KILLER!!!"
Quite simply the most underrated American hardcore / punk ro

"With two relatively obscure 45's released on a label that helped kickstart the American hardcore scene both in print and on wax, Lansing, Michigan's THE FIX have somehow been lost in the historical shuffle.

The six songs on these two singles (plus the track from the incredibly good, "Process of Elimination" compilation 7" from 1981 - easily the best punk / hardcore compilation 7in ever - is there really any other competition beside "Unsafe At Any Speed"???) document some serious Midwestern musical aggression.

In addition to the band's seven songs of legitimate, official output during the early 1980s, this CD (and LP) contain the demos from the late 1980s bootleg compilation, "Cold Days," on West Germany's Lost & Found Records. These songs are split between the "Vengeance" and "Jan's Rooms" sessions, as far as I can tell.

Additionally, the live material on this disc provide some absolutely brutal rage against the state, society, and state of affairs. Given the consistent downturn of Michigan's economy over the last thirty years in light of globalization, the continued decline and failure of unions, and corruption of local government, this band's recording paints an interesting philosophical picture of America's urban heartland.

This compilation CD is so long overdue (as is this review). It is a mandatory purchase for anyone who is a fan of Naked Raygun, Effigies, Articles of Faith, Minor Threat, Scream, SOA, Teen Idles, Discharge, Blitz, etc.

Hopefully, this is a sign of change for TOUCH & GO RECORDS. They have some serious (and profitable - hello? vinyl sales are through the roof these days, gentlemen) work do to in the reclamation of their back catalogue from bootleggers / idiots.

Most importantly, this is a call for a solid, complete, well-archived, and well-documented double CD discography reissue of classic Ohio hardcore punk band THE NECROS. Touch & Go head honcho, Corey Rusk, was a member of this amazing band and apparently, internal politics have prevented fans and punk / hardcore fans / fanatics / historians from being able to obtain these documents legally and cheaply.

TOUCH AND GO: You will make money. Reissue large chunks of your back catalogue. DUH. New economy = people are buying tons of vinyl again."
