CD Reviews

Back to basics
R. Suarez Giacoman | Mc Allen, Texas United States | 11/15/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"After a couple live albums (Mi vida con ellas 1 & 2) and a quite interesting classical experiment (Moda y Pueblo) that featured many of his most popular songs, Fito returns with a brand new album in 2006.

At a first listen the album may sound familiar, and in a couple cases there are songs that are reminiscent of other songs presented in previous albums, take for instance the opening theme `El mundo cabe en una cancion' which may sound as a fast version of `Abre' from the homonym album.

This is definitely a back to basics for Paez, his last studio album `Naturaleza Sangre' was a little bit more aggressive than usual and it was great and different in many ways. `El mundo cabe en una cancion' presents 12 songs that are filled with his influences, Paez sounds optimistic again and the lyrics are as great as in any other Paez album. `Rollinga o Miranda girl' is a powerful song with guitar riffs that remind us that Paez is a rocker before anything. `Fue por amor; is another excellent theme that in the beginning sounds as the opening music of `El salmon' of Andres Calamaro. `Sargent Maravilla' will definitely remind you of one of the greatest influences Paez has, all the music, chorus and themes have a unique Beatle sound spiced with Paez' own style.

Listen to the excellent single `Eso que llevas ahi' and you will get an idea of the whole album, both the music and the lyrics are great. If you like this song I am sure you'll enjoy the album.

Is this album better than the last one? Hard to tell, when `Naturaleza Sangre' was released Paez was going through several things on his life, his recent break up with Cecilia Rot and a new found love and all those issues were reflected in the songs of the album. The same thing happens with this new album but now Paez seems to be in a better moment of his life, he sounds great as always but more optimistic in his lyrics. The last song `Caminando por Rosario' is a great ballad that was wisely selected to close another great album that has been added to his discography. After waiting 3 years for new material this album will not disappoint you.

Gran disco, gran musico.... grande Fito."
