Romanesque and yakusoku
MoonSabre | Buffalo, The Other Side of NY State, USA | 06/14/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Once again, Fiction Junction YUUKA put their talents into an anime theme. This time they are doing the first ending theme for El Cazador De La Bruta, another girls with guns anime that is made by the same group that did Madlax and Noir. The two tracks on this single are romanesque and yakusoku (promise in Japanese).

Romanesque is a new sound in that Kajiura Yuki-san, the composer behind the group, used an accordian as the driving instrument. This is not a bad thing as it adds a sense of romanticism to the entire song. Nanri Yuuka- san, instead of being another instrument in the peice, drives the song with urgency. Her voice while always very warm and beautiful, is often over looked because of the great instrumentation work from Kajiura-san. In this song however, Nanri-san carrys it and the sound is really very good.

Yakusoku is a great peice that actually sounds better than romanesque. Fiction Junction YUUKA is well known for mixing in great classical instruments with a pop like overtone. Yakusoku is definitely a step out of their comfort zone if you will. At first the song starts with some interesting keyboard work that makes it sound like a very slow, and sad song. However it kicks out of its revere to the tune of a great little guitar solo. It reminds me of someone thinking about a promise that they made and suddenly remembering it, then attempting to fulfill it. It is a great song that has alot of meaning to it.

Overall, romanesque while a great song, lacks the movement within the arrangement that is expected from Fiction Junction YUUKA. This movement is found greatly in yakusoku and is more akin to the talent level that Fiction Junction YUUKA has. I still highly recommend this single to any music fan.

Rating: 4 1/2 stars -I like to round up :)"
