CD Reviews

Excellent Compilation, but could have used some extras

"*NOTE* that this is a review of the US release of "Exitos". A Mexican version exists with extra tracks.

All of Fey's hits are finally released on one album (and for a low price as well). Released in 2000, the only songs not included on this album are from her 2002 release "Vertigo".

The songs are mostly dance/club pop but her ballads are included as well. For those who are looking to sample Fey, here's a breakdown of the album

1. Media Naranja 5/5 - This was her first radio hit! Cute, dancey and lots of fun!

2. Fiebre del Sabado 4/5 - Takes a while to adjust to. This one is TOO cute and a little too happy but good.

3. Gatos en el Balcon 3/5 - This one is ok; the tempo isn't as fast as the previous two but still a good song.

4. Diselo con Flores 2/5 - Fast paced, dance song. Unfortunately, the lyrics are too repetitious and the main chorus really becomes annoying by the end of the song. I usually skip this one over.

5. Canela 2/5 - I'm just not a fan of ballads. While this one is soothing and acoustic-like, I don't find anything really special about it.

6. El 1/5 - Fast tempo song. Unfortunately, nothing special stands out from this song. It's all just bland and boring.

7. Me Enamoro de Ti 1/5 - Another dance tune. The main chorus is very dull, however. Nothing special about this one either.

8. Subidon 4/5 - I don't like ballads, but this one is really good! Nice melody, great lyrics! Definately worth a listen.

9. Te Pertenezco 5/5 - Excellent dance track off her sophomore album. It has that "Euro" feeling and it's definately a dance tune that won't be easily forgotten! One of her best!

10. Ni Tu Ni Nadie 4/5 - This one has a slower tempo than the club hits, but nonetheless, an excellent radio hit. It gets a little tiresome toward the end, though.

11. Azucar Amargo 5/5 - Probably the most memorable hit ever from Fey. This song was so insanely popular that people recall it till this day. Has a cutesy-dance feeling to it, but it is the LYRICS that make this song so powerful and well worth listening to.

12. Bajo el Arcoiris 3/5 - Another dance tune. This one was also a big hit, but I feel the lyrics and the main melody gives it too much of a childish feeling. Still a good song to listen to.

13. La Noche se Mueve 4/5 - Dance song from her debut album. This is another big hit and has more of a "club" feeling to it rather than the cute dance-pop of "Bajo el Arcoiris." The "Ehh Ehh" part of the song is a wee bit annoying sometimes.

14. Cielo Liquido - 4/5 - Another club-like dance track, this one off her third album. Starts off really great, then weakens just a bit. The main chorus is a little boring, though.

15. Muevelo 5/5 - Another of Fey's biggest hits. THis one comes from her sophomore album. The dance song sounds kind of like a work-out song, but has a great beat that makes you want to get up and dance to it! Definately my favorite!

My only beef with this album is that all it has are the hits and nothing extra. No remixes, no special tracks, nothing. The problem with that is if you have all her previous albums, then you have everything from this album. Seriously, if you've got the first three albums, skip this one over unless you're a die-hard Fey fan and simply collect. There isn't even any artwork included; the cover is taken from her third album and the insert has NOTHING inside except the track listening. Really disappointing. It seems as if Sony was trying to cash in on this and released it in haste.

Also, at the very very end of each song, you can hear a snippet from the next track; poor recording on the company's part!

Overall, if you are listening to Fey for the first time, this is the album to buy!"
