Album Description

Mendelssohn?s piano music is informed by a poetically romantic depth of feeling and a light-hearted graceful elegance, which sets it worlds apart from the respectable bourgeois dullness of its period. Many of his finest inspirations were entrusted to the piano. From his youth, Mendelssohn was a brilliant pianist, whose free improvisations at the instrument were the wonder of all the capitals of Europe. Matthias Kirschnereit is one of the leading German pianists of his generation. A professor at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Rostock since 1997, he lives in Hamburg. He has been recording the Mozart piano concertos for Arte Nova with the Bamberg Symphony.
