Randall | Silver Spring, MD | 02/19/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "I could speculate as to the meaning of the lyrics of "Feel Good, Inc." by the Gorillaz, but I haven't put much thought to it because I don't care. The sound and arrangement of this song are so inventive that it's just a treat to listen to it. Analyzing it would just spoil it. Nine months after first hearing this song as part of an Ipod commercial, I still enjoy it as much now as I did then. When it comes on the radio, I turn the volume up; I will repeat it when it comes up on my play list on my Ipod; and I will make everyone shut up and listen when the video pops up on MTV. The opening track of hysterical laughter immediately signals this will be a different type of song. 2-D's (one of the members of this animated band) monotone lyrics amid a thumping bass guitar leave one unprepared for the loftier chorus, the amazing guitar interlude, and certainly not for the secondary rap chorus provided by hip-hop masters De La Soul. The mixture is the most eclectic since Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and is mature and memorable. "Feel Good, Inc." is a song that should not just be listened to, but rather, experienced. As for it's meaning, the tower represents a dystopic society in shambles, and the windmill represents innocence and freedom from that society.
2-D's lyrics really bring the song together, and Noodle's acoustic riff on the second chorus is awe-inspiring. Gorillaz did a GREAT job with FGI overall; couldn't of hit the nail on the head any better." |
