Yet another Fastway re-packaging from BGO
John DeWald | Denver, CO USA | 09/12/2000

"This is the second Fastway effort from England's BGO (Beat Goes On) label. Over the summer, they released in the U.S. the first two Fastway records on one CD. This latest release pulls tunes from all of the Dave King-era Fastway releases, including the near-impossible-to-find "Waiting For The Roar".What you get in "Collection" is 19 tunes, with the 15 of the 19 being from either "Fastway", "All Fired Up" or the soundtrack to "Trick or Treat". As those three albums are now fairly easily found, it raises the question - is this "Collection" worth it?The answer is that it depends on your perspective. As a completist, you may want this for your own library. But it may also depend on your feelings about "Waiting For The Roar". WFTR was definitely a calculated effort to sound more commercial for Fastway. In fact, keyboards are very prominent and the song structures and production values also are very much tilted towards commercial rock such as it was in the '80's. Personally, I was torn over WFTR. I really liked some of the songs, but some of the songs just sounded flat. Fortunately, "Collection" grabs basically the strongest songs from WFTR, including my fave, "The World Waits For You". So to me, I picked up "Collection" based on that song alone. As for the re-packaging itself, there are liner notes from Dave Ling of Classic Rock magazine. The notes provide an interesting overview of the band and are suprisingly non-apologetic in describing events and even reviewing the records. We also learn that after the "failure" of WFTR, that Fastway's last chance from the lable was to come up with a good disc for the "Trick or Treat" soundtrack. Given that information, it's very interesting to hear the huge differences between WFTR and TOT.Overall, if you like Fastway, this is a disc worth having. You'll get over 75 minutes of Fastway, including 4 hard-to-find tracks."
ALL FIRED UP FOR THIS ONE!

"Well, as i was perusing amazon.com looking for something to pick up, i came across this little ditty.Enjoying my teen years in the 80s,this was one of the bands that i loved, sadly i was one of the few people i knew that even cared about this band, but for the life of me i cant understand why thier label never got this band over with the fans of rock music at the time. I was doubly pleased to find tracks from the hard to find "waiting for the roar" release, which i still have on vinyl. This thankfully omits any releases of the post-dave king incarnation of fastway, which spawned 2 of the most unforgettable releases of rock history which were "bad, bad girls" and "on target".But i digress, as far as this one is concerned it also features tracks from the trick or treat record, and one of the greatest rock songs ever, "say what you will".Eddie Clarke who was the guitarist from fastway made a major mistake by letting dave king go, this guy easily is the most underrated singer i have ever heard, any fans of dave king can find his work on a cd from a band called katmandu, which only released one cd but it was a great one at that, dave can be heard now in a band called flogging molly which can be described as a irish-folk,rock,punk band who are currently touring on the warped tour 2001.Any fans of fastway who want a greatest hits collection do themselves a service to get this one rather than the other one out there released by thier label."

"Here's one Fastway release, that until here recently I never even knew about.Nineteen tracks pulled from the four 'key' Fastway albums. You get tunes from their '83 self-titled debut,'84's 'All Fired Up',86's 'The World Waits For You' and their '87,tough to beat 'Trick Or Treat' movie soundtrack. So,there you go.Wish these guys would consider a reunion sometime.Seriously doubt they ever would.Wonder what Dave King is up to these days."
