Synopsis

Album Description
2009 digitally remastered two-fer featuring a pair of albums from the Country legend available on one disc: Here's Faron Young (1968) and Occasional Wife (1970). Both LPs showcase Faron's recordings from a time when he was at the very height of his career, where his individual trademark tremulous tenor vocals were never better. The album Here's Faron Young includes two hits: 'She Went A Little Bit Farther' and 'I Just Came To Get My Baby'. The Occasional Wife LP also produced two hit singles: 'If I Ever Fall In Love (With A Honky Tonk Girl)' and the title track, 'Occasional Wife'. The accompanying 12 page booklet includes photographs, liner notes and full lyrics to all of the featured tracks. Hux.

CD Reviews

Excellent late 60s sides
Mark Blevins | Lindside, WV United States | 06/29/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The set combines two late 60s/early 70s albums by Faron Young on the Mercury label on one CD. The running time is still fairly short, clocking in at almost 55 minutes. There's lots of great honky tonk weepers and great music on the disc, though.

Aside from the hits - "I Just Came to Get my Baby," "If I Ever Fall in Love With a Honky Tonk Girl" (one of my favorites) - I don't think most of this music has been available since it was released nearly 40 years ago. Two other smaller hits are also on the CD - "Occasional Wife" and "She Went a Little Bit Farther" - as well.

The rest combines some great up tempo songs such as "Here's to the Girls" and "My First Taste of Loneliness" to weepers like "Missing You Was All I Did Today." There's also a version of "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" that pre-dates Freddy Fender's hit version by about five years.

This set gets some of Young's fine Mercury work back out in the marketplace. Before this set, only the 20th Century Masters series contained any of Young's later work. All of Faron Young's Capitol sides are available through Bear Family and the best are available on the excellent two-disc set The Complete Capitol Hits of Faron Young by Collector's Choice Music.

Young's music stands the test of time for fans of classic country and the honky tonk sound. I highly recommend this."

"I have always been a Faron Young fan. I am amazed at the number of songs that Faron Young recorded. This album added several songs that I did not already have in my collection."
