CD Reviews

Phenomenal Punk Classic!!!
Ernesto Catalan Valdez | Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico | 04/14/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I was a Heavy Metal kid back in 1985, when I first heard this album through a friend in High School. What I thought to be some half-decent sounding bootleg resulted in being an "official" album!!! ON STAGE captures THE EXPLOITED in all its punk glory and anarchy. To this day, this album STILL sounds like a half-decent bootleg (Like someone in the audience taped this with a high quality recorder!), clear and loud, but bootleg-like nontheless. Of course, this only adds charm to this invaluable album. What's very intersting is that this is "punk rock", devoid of any "heavy metal" or "speed metal" overtones. As you should know, THE EXPLOITED of the late 80's to mid 90's embraced the sound of the thrash metal bands they so dearly influenced, thus becoming a more generic "crossover" band. On this album you can even hear the audience shouting things at EXPLOITED leader Watty (it sounds as if they were playing in a REALLY small club!). "Punk's not dead", "Dead Cities", "Mod song", "I Believe in Anarchy" and the lovely "Sex and Violence" must be heard to be believed. It doesn't matter what you might think of THE EXPLOITED these days, but if you consider yourself a TRUE punk at heart, you will do no wrong in owining this raw live album. Excuse the sound and dig in the attitude and you will also "believe in anarchy"!!!"
