Synopsis

Amazon.com
Renowned jazz artist Terence Blanchard gives his second career composing soundtracks a nice boost with the music for Eve's Bayou, seamlessly blending jazz and classical styles into a unified whole. This means that at times you hear a guitar taking the melody, backed up by a string section, or a main theme played first as a classical arrangement, then reworked into a jazz piece. The result is at times fast paced and tense, more often quiet and atmospheric, setting the mood for the film. There's a certain intimacy about this music that most orchestral soundtracks rarely capture; it's a testimony to Blanchard's skill as a composer that this works so well, without becoming sappy or maudlin. --Genevieve Williams

CD Reviews

Great taste of Louisiana
DW_218 | NY | 10/12/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I admit I bought this cd, because I love Erykah Badu. She has two songs on this cd(well, one is a remixed version.) But, actually I preferred the other cuts on the CD even more! You feel like you are in Louisiana when listening to this music. It has great Blues, R&B, Jazz, and Cajun songs. My favorite tracks are "Don't Let The Sun Catch you Crying" by the always soulful great, Ray Charles. Another fantastic singer featured on this Cd is the very talented Etta James. Her song, "Sunday Kind of Love," is an absolute classic. There are some great instumentals and Jazz music by the late genius, Louis Armstrong. I also loved the Cajun tune, "C'est Pas La Peine Brailler," by Geno Delafose. I don't usually buy soundtracks, but this one is definitely a keeper! It really expresses the feelings of the movie very well."
Some of the best in blues

"This CD has everything that Blues Brothers 2000 wish it had. Erykah Badu's very saucy "Child With the Blues" made me become an instant fan or hers. And the zestful creole music mixed with classics from the legendary Bobby Blue Bland and others makes this CD gold!"
Terence Blanchard should be composing more scores

"FIVE STARS IS NOT ENOUGHThe main reason I watched this movie was to listen to Blanchard's score. I'm not a big jazz fan yet, but really like how he infuses jazz in this score and the one for "Malcolm X." The movie was good, but Blanchard's score added more. I really like all the cues related to Mozelle - great melody. This is a great score that I would recommend to anyone. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. A WORTHY BUY."
