BRAVO MICHAUD!
Signs Point to Yes | London, England | 02/07/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Event's HUMAN CONDITION is the band's second full-length release and a significant step forward in the career of Shaun Michaud, the band's explosive blond guitarist. A petite dynamo who has logged road time with Event (www.eventband.com) and the infamous Fates Warning, Michaud is also the principal writer, producer, and engineer of Event, making him quite the triple - nay, quadruple! - threat in his merry group of poppy proggers. Lest they escape my attention, Mssrs. Deluco, Rigney, and Scurfield all shine across HUMAN CONDITION's 11 tracks. Deluco's vocals have been tamed somewhat from Event's previous release, and the result is a more tightly focused stylistic direction from his exquisitely smooth and pale throat, somewhat akin to Mike Patton in his less microtonal moments. The rumbling bottom of Mr. Rigney - his Fender Jazz Bass, that is! - has gained an added warmth since 1998's ELECTRIC SKIES, an analog depth with just a touch of fur. Distortion my dear, not mink! And what to say about Mr. Scurfield? Event's stalwart rhythmic auteur is as creative as ever, poking and jabbing in spots I would NEVER expect! But I suspect that has something to do with Mr. Michaud, whose singular compositions show a flair for melodic inventiveness, rhythmic variation, and just enough harmonic depth to make freshly ironed spats curl! It has recently come to this reviewer's attention that Mr. Michaud moonlights as a character called 'Frenchie,' a musical guise he has adopted to engineer the albums of the gleefully bizarre progressive trio Dreadnaught (www.dreadnaughtrock.com). The Magic Eight Ball gives HUMAN CONDITION 5 stars! SIGNS POINT TO YES! Bravo Event! Bravo Michaud!"

"I bought this CD at ... At first listen I was a little thrown off guard by the technological steps this group took to produce this sound. Upon the 2nd listen however, I found most of the tracks to have catchy chorus lines, as well as excellent harmonies backed up by tremendous musicianship. For those of you who enjoy King's X & Faith No More, this is the band for you. Unfortuntely, this sound goes over the heads of a lot of the typical pop-rock genre(Fuel, Kid Rock, etc.) Perhaps in the future, when the ears of our younger generation have been educated, Event will find a way to reach those audiences as well. Good luck gentleman!"
