Synopsis

Album Description
Long before the invention of the radio or written music, mothers, daughters, fathers and sons passed on songs from generation to generation. Perhaps it was a family gathering, or an impromptu party, where the gift of song was a gift of tradition and magic. Singer Eugenia Elliott begins her recorded history on Southport with this collection of songs, "Where Or When." For several years Eugenia and her mother talked about songs from that era of long ago and far away, and it is from these quiet conversations that this CD was born. With a voice that's fresh and true, Eugenia will cast you in a spell with classics like "The More I See Of You", "That Old Black Magic" and "Skylark". Eugenia's alto voice projects a sublime maturity beyond her years. With the linear beauty of pianist, musical director and arranger Bobby Schiff, this collection of songs skirts on the heels of tender ballads and impressive big band charts. Other veterans on this date include Jim Cox on bass and Charlie Braugham on drums with a horn section of Warren Kime and Doug Scharf, trumpet & flugelhorn, Bill Porter, trombone and Steve Leinheiser, tenor sax/clarinet/flute. You'll also hear the jazz guitar work of Dave Baney. The music is kicking and all horns are attacking-- you'll swear you're hearing a BIG BAND!

CD Reviews

Top notch, deserves to be among every fan's favorites

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Eugenia Elliott's voice has that rare ability to make your body react to the emotion involuntarily. Her voice compares with the best and most popular singers in the genre. Think Diana Krall with more warmth and sweetness. Deserves to be better known."
