CD Reviews

Come Home
Blues Lover | New York | 08/08/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I saw Eugene Bridges at the 2005 Pocono Blues Festival and he was sensational. I wish that hour was tripled. He largely lives, plays and tours in Europe, so we don't get a chance to see him much in the U.S. It's a shame, too. I purchased this cd because the band he was playing with at Pocono was on the cd and he played most of the cd live. Just flat out great blues, super voice, excellent guitar work. I can't say enough about the cd except I am buying his other two."
Goes beyond the Blues

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I am not a Blues fan -- so this disc (and the artist) is especially exciting for me. I stumbled onto Hideaway on XM radio. I actually pulled the car over to write down the artist and song. When I got home I ordered all his discs. This is the best one. He shows a range of talent, from gut-wrenching old-fashioned blues like "I Wish Someone Would Have Told Me" to a James Taylor-like ballad "I Need You," to a 50's style rock n'roll ballad "In Your Arms Tonight." This range is more remarkable in that he wrote all the songs. The band is good, with really fine B3 work. The recording is good too -- it will move your subwoofer. I don't know how a hard core blues fan would react to this disc, but for a generalist this is a great way to discover the charm and power of a modern blues singer. His earlier disc, "Jump the Joint," is more traditional, but it's also a great set of songs.

Why did I decide to give this disc five stars? Because I can't stop listening to it!
