"Founded by violinist and composer maestro Felix Reyna on June 8,1959 this magnificent cuban charanga was cuban flautist Jose Fajardo's original "monster orchestra". On that date Reyna and other musicians of the orchestra (minus famous guiro player Osvaldo "Chihuahua"Martinez decided to replace Fajardo with Reyna, as leader and with Julio Guerrero "El Distinto" as flautist. For two decades this great orchestra also featured the Calzado brothers in chorus with Sergio as lead singer. The recordings on this CD "A Bailar Cha Cha Cha Muchachos" were done in Havana's legendary "Estudio Teatro de Radio Progreso" around the fall of 1960. Due to the political situation which befell Cuba around that time these popular yet rare recordings were never re-issued in the U.S.until the "Velvet/Vedisco label re-issued them in 1995. Since then and to this day they remain among the very few recordings available by what was definitely one of Cuba's best charanga orchestras of all times. The acquisition of this CD is a must for all afro-cuban music and charanga music lovers and musicologists."
