Their only worthy competitors are The Orlando Consort and Ensemble Officium. "The Essential Ockeghem" is not, however, an addition to the repertoire, but rather a sampler of diverse mass movements and motets from previous releases; if you are, like me, an Ockeghem enthusiast, you will either have or want the six CDs presenting the whole masses. The prime use for this CD will be as a birthday present for friends who are not yet initiated into the wonders of polyphony."
