CD Reviews

Absolutely first-rate music!
Charles Andrew Whitehead | Fort Worth, Texas | 03/30/2005

"This is music-making of the highest calibre and a great selection of songs. Ernestine is so soulful in her approach and the rhythm section lay down incredible grooves with Ray driving from below and Monty delivering some remarkable solos as in "Old Folks" or "Poor Butterfly". This is also model comping- colorful, rhythmically alive but without getting in the way. This music is incredibly overlooked and should be in every jazz lover's library. Also excellent from the same period is "Sunshine" also on Concord which is for now out of print. Highly recommended for anyone who just loves good music."
One of my all-time favourites

"My uncle presented this album to me when I was about 15 and becoming a serious piano player. It blew me away. I heard the piano being played in a way that affected me for the rest of my life. Monte Alexander is one of the best jazz players around. This is happy, clean jazz that doesn't twist your brain into a knot. This recording features vocals, piano, stand-up bass, and drums. That's it - clean, simple, perfect. When I wore out the record, I bought the cd and I just cherish it, along with my Vince Guaraldi Christmas cd."
