CD Reviews

Not bad for a sexy, wild, Latin rock goddess
02/04/2003
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Erica Garcia is a talented musician, a fine lyrist, and doesn't have a bad set of pipes. 'La bestia', her second effort, is a top-notch, quality, punk album (overall). For many that think that music from/in Latin America consists of Ricky Martin and Shakira, think again; this is a version of Latin music you don't hear often in the US.Like her live shows, this album is a tad schizophrenic: one minute the music is energetic and fast-paced, but it is then balanced with slow and melancholic tracks such as 'Nada' and 'Sos mi mal'. If you speak Spanish, you'll see that the lyrics are raw and in-your-face; Erica's music bares it all.The best songs are: 'Rock Annabella', 'Hoy vas a ver', 'Dame un papel', 'Vete destino', and 'Sos mi mal'.Why did I give this album a rating of 3 stars instead of 5? Well, a few of the songs like 'He's an ocean', 'Yo sin vos descano', and 'La bestia' are irritating to the point that you want to pull your hair out (or skip to the next track). I, for one, prefer her fast-paced, punk tunes over the melancholy stuff. The above notwithstanding, it is a good, solid album. So buy it and find out what Argentine (or Latin) rock is all about."
