OUTSTANDING INTRODUCTION TO GEORGIAN POLOPHONY!

(5 out of 5 stars)
"A Group of Musicians and vocalists preforms songs from all over Georgia. Not only is there a lot of culture involved but it sounds magical and ethereal with enough variety to keep things interesting. Don't worry if this CD sounds a little inconsistent at first because Ensemble Georgika improves with each listen. The styles range from upbeat work songs (tracks 1,3,4) to heavenly sounding Hymns (tracks 12-17) to love songs (Tracks 23,24) and a spine-tingling table song (track 6). Tracks (5, 22,and 25) are flute and sting instrumentals comparable to track 35 on the Golden Fleece (another Georgian CD.) While track 14 is found on Sacred and ritual music of Georgia several tracks can be fond on Georgian voices by the Rustavi Choir. Track 26, a historical song, is one of the most delectable tracks sounding somewhat like an English marabel with women and children singing along with the men."
