The English countryside in music

"There's 67 minutes of wonderful English pastoral music on this disc, starting with the less known Gordon Jacob's Concerto for Oboe & Strings & concluding with Vaughan Williams' Oboe Concerto. In between are compositions for oboe by Elgar, Holst & Goosens. They're all very, very good (Holst's "A Fugal Concerto" is an old favorite of mine), but I especially enjoyed the concerto by Jacobs, which I was unfamiliar with. It is a first class piece of writing all the way, very engaging.

The players are outstanding, the recording quality is excellent & I loved the cover which tells the whole story here -- a flock of sheep making their way through an English village. Very highly recommended!"
