Solid efforts in experimental ambience

"Encomiast (aka Ross Hagen) offers solid experimental

music utilizing minimalist, droning and music concrete

elements. This is a general review. I find Encomiast

somewhat of a hit-or-miss affair from track to track,

which isn't to say he lacks consistency - its just not

what I would call 'exceptional.' The tracks are quite

competent none the less, and at times offer stand-outs

(like "Without Fear"). I read on Ross' MySpace page

that Cold Meat Industries was among his influences and

I definitely hear that, a la Raison D'etre (I'm many

years removed from my Cold Meat days at this point, and

Raison was the only act that came to mind). Anyway, I

give Ross credit for getting his music out there, wish

him the best, and will keep my ears and mind open.

I'm new to the music of Encomiast but will be listening to

it for the next several days while I enjoy my morning brew.
