Synopsis

Description
Continuing our releases from Oscar-winning director Murray Lerner?s filming of the 1970 Isle Of Wight Festival, we have Emerson Lake & Palmer?s The Birth Of A Band. It was ELP?s first proper live concert, their only previous gig having been a warm up in Plymouth the previous night. Playing in front of 600,000 people, at what remains the biggest festival in rock history, they became overnight stars with the press raving about their virtuosity and daring. They would go on from here to become multi-million selling artists, but this unique film is there right at the beginning. This DualDisc? contains the full-length film from the festival on one side, and the full companion audio recording on the other. Tracklisting:
1. Pictures at an Exhibition
2. Take a Pebble
3. Rondo
4. Nutrocker

CD Reviews

Pretty good ELP CD/DVD release IMHO

"I am 19 and am a huge ELP fan, I was very surprised to hear they released a DualDisc album of the gig at Isle Of Wight. The sound quality of the recordings are outstanding. Those three guys weren't that bad at all, this blows me away of how great they're introduction worldwide was. The DVD was interesting to me, you get to see recent interviews with Emerson, Lake & Palmer themselves and see footage of Isle Of Wight Festival. I would recommend this to anyone that likes ELP that dont have the recording of them of Isle Of Wight or people that wanna be introduced into theyre music. Long live ELP!"
What a rip-off!

"DVD is almost entirely Pictures and Rondo, except for interviews and lame footage of the festival grounds and attendees. My sense is there is no new footage here that what was on the previous IOW offerings. The Pictures footage is almost un-watchable, due to lame stop-action and slo-mo effects. Rondo is good, however, w/o the aforementioned effects. Full Palmer drum solo is shown. Take a Pebble is almost entirely played with worthless footage of the festival grounds and attendees. No footage of Nutrocker. I suppose the interviews may be of interest. Keith, filmed in 2005, does a cool demo and plays a few bars on his Moog rig. I'm mad there's not more here, but I think I'll come to like the few bits that are there - especially Rondo."
