CD Reviews

An excellent holiday album from The King of Rock 'n' Roll
Matthew G. Sherwin | last seen screaming at Amazon customer service | 11/27/2009

"Elvis Presley made everything he performed so special; and this Christmas CD of his songs gives us the best music you could ask for even though the album is a bit short. Elvis is in excellent form all throughout this album and it's a treat for his fans if they don't have this CD already. The quality of the sound is good and I like that artwork.

"Blue Christmas," one of Elvis' very famous holiday songs, gets the royal treatment from Elvis; he does this to perfection--and beyond! His voice is an instrument that enables him to convey all the nuances of the lyrics; and I'm very impressed. This song is so good it's actually beautiful to hear at any time of the year! The guitars, drums and that backup chorus harmonizing really enhance the number, too. "Silent Night" showcases Elvis squarely in the spotlight, right where he belongs! He gives "Silent Night" a most sensitive treatment and it all holds its own very well.

"White Christmas" has a fine arrangement that is a bit different from what I'm used to--Elvis plays just a bit with the tempo and the keys but it sounds terrific. Listen also for the romantic and nostalgic "I'll Be Home for Christmas." The piano really works well on "I'll Be Home for Christmas," too. "If Every Day Was Like Christmas" shines bright in Elvis' capable hands; and he delivers this flawlessly. "Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)" is another stunner; Elvis doesn't really need that backup but they do sound pretty good anyway.

"O Little Town of Bethlehem" is another tender, sensitive ballad; and I really like "Santa Bring My Baby Back (To Me)" with that early rock and roll sound. "Mama Liked the Roses" is quite poignant and memorable as well.

Elvis left us all too soon; but of course he lives on through his music. This is wonderful for his fans if they don't already have it; and anyone who enjoys high quality control holiday music will cherish this CD for years to come!"

"I bought this for my wife. She's a loyal Elvis fan and enjoyed it very much. Probably could have put more songs on the CD. I thought more songs could have been included on the CD. But they were good nonetheless."
