The best debut by a new artist in 1990s Tejano, Atrevete features a young and talented crew led by versatile singer Elida. Taking the basic Tejano template of polka and rancheras, Avante mixes in crisp, ringing cumbias and soaring ballads to create what might be described as new pop Tejano. Elida's dulcet but potent vocals shine the best on the haunting single "Luna Llena." This tune was a highly successful track that not only put Elida y Avante on the map, but also received multiple Tejano Music Award nominations and earned the group the title of Best New Artist at Billboard's 1996 Latin Music Awards.
