CD Reviews

A historic 2-CD set which covers his 1960s, '70s and '80s cl

"No one compilation could do an artist of Eddie Palmieri's importance full justice but this indispensable 2-CD set comes quite close. The compilation producers thankfully chose to include tracks from virtually all phases of his career from the 1960s through the '80s and (as such) you get classic hits from the Tico, Alegre, Coco and Fania labels' vaults--all with truly superior sound quality. Of course, Eddie's classic 1960s albums for the Tico and Alegre labels revolutionized Afro-Latin music and they remain undisputed Salsa classics to this day but until they are all reissued...this collection is the best and most comprehensive of Eddie Palmieri's music you can get. To say this 2-CD set is a worthwhile addition to your Salsa collection would be an understatement as (honestly)...it's INDISPENSABLE!!!"

"I bought this comp together with "Sugar Daddy" for a nearly perfect dose of Palmieri. There are a few boring jazz jams on here, but the wealth of absolute classics makes it more than a bargain: "La Malanga" is incandescent, "Justicia" and "Vamanos Pa'l Monte" are indispensable, and with very few exceptions this really is Palmieri at his best."
More like the tinkerer of latin music

"What's amazing about these tracks is how many musical ideas are so original. Eddie Palmieri was on the vanguard of the all trombone brass. If you like that sound you will love this double album.

This music was very strong on the musicality, and was based on having great musicianship, rather than today's dominance of the romantic solo singers with a bunch of tracks that all sound the same. There is a great progression as you hear where he incorporated different ideas and instruments into his band."
