La Perfecta at its peak!!!
Ramon Melendez | Anaheim, CA USA | 07/25/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In a world filled either with imitation or foolish originality there was a band called "La Perfecta". The perfect blend of originality and tradition. Eddie Palmieri, Barry Rogers, Manny Oquendo, Ismael Quintana, Tommy Lopez, Jose Rodrigues, Dave Perez and George Castro worked together to create a sound that was a favorite of the dance crazed public of the 60's Palladium in NYC and became an instant classic through Latin America. La Perfecta was arguably the most influential salsa band out of the 60's NY. Rock solid tight for the dancers feet and jazzy for the discerning ears, full of spontaneity and so swinging!!!Barry Rogers trombone playing is awesome in all tracks but is specially beautiful in "Cuidate Compay" and Eddie's solo on "Azucar" is legendary. Manny Oquendo's solo in "Los cueros me llaman" has that Oquendo old school signature and electricity that makes you jump and dance and bang on any available surface."Azucar" is probably the best of La Perfecta's 60's output and is an essential CD for any Salsa music lover. But lo and behold: ALL the other La Perfecta recordings are classics and if you can get them all then go for it. There is no filling material in this CD all is great stuff."
This 1965-released classic is a salsa "Must-have"!!!

"Eddie Palmieri's Conjunto La Perfecta was one of the most respected and beloved bands during the 1960s and early '70s because it epitomized perfection. Almost all of this band's Tico Records releases are indispensable for any salsa CD library but this one's title track alone is worth the entire CD's price."
