Synopsis

Album Description
2009 release from the Scottish singer/songwriter and former vocalist with Fairground Attraction. Since the early 1980s, Eddi Reader has helped to define the landscape in which Folk artists and singer/songwriters navigate. With Love Is The Way, Eddi continues to fly the flag for Folk and traditional music. The intimate recording process was facilitated by engineer Mark Freegard in his little studio in Glasgow, above the Glasgow-to-Helensburgh trainline. The recording sessions were originally earmarked as extra tracks fo a Best Of Eddi Reader release, but Eddi was so taken with the results that the decision was made to scrap the Best Of and proceed with a completely new record. 13 tracks. Rough Trade. 2009.

Voice of An Angel

(4 out of 5 stars)

"In 2008 Eddi Reader goes into a record greatest hits selection with Boo Hewerdine, realise that they have enough good material for a new studio album, change their minds and produce a quality collection of songs in 'Love Is The Way'. This is a departure from the 'Robert Burns' and 'Peacetime' releases but still stays true to her folk/acoustic roots. She adds a little 'jazz' flavouring with 'Dandelion' and 'Dragonflies', but standout tracks for me are 'My Shining Star', 'Love Is The Way' and the sublime 'I Won't Stand In Your Way'. The only blot on the album is 'Never Going Back Again', which just sounds like an 'out-take' in it's carefree approach. Can't figure out where it is an actual serious song or just a bunch of guys having fun between takes. Other than that, Eddi's vocals are as usual flawless and the choice of material better than good."

"I have to say Eddi Reader is in full form. Beautifully crafted songs. Angelic voice. A welcome addition to her collection. Stand out track Roses! A great breezy summer tune."
