CD Reviews

Remarkable woman doing songs just perfect for her!

"I purchased these same songs on a long play "45" back in about 1954 or 55. I have been checking catalogs for the last 3 or 4 years looking for more Eartha, unsuccessfully. I was thrilled to discover her here. And even MORE thrilled to find this particular CD which is identical to the "45" I owned back in the 50's. These songs don't get old. Eartha's distinctive sound combined with the diversity of languages make the music very intriguing. Something you want to hear over and over. I find myself singing the words to Uska Dara, African Lullaby and Under The Bridges of Paris, even though I have no idea what they mean. I feel a little tipsy with Eartha as she sings Lilac Wine. I Want To Be Evil with Eartha even though she can think of nothing worse to do than cheat at jacks. I feel the grief of a lost love in Smoke Gets In Your Eyes. A remarkable woman and remarkable music!"

"I have listened to this album, cassette, and cd since I was a kid. My mom was a fan as a result so am I. It's hard to pick favorites but I love: Angelitos Negros, C'est Si Bon, and Avril Au Portugal. Thank you catwoman. P.S. It was good to see you in the Old Navy commercials."

"I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED THE MUSIC OF NANCY WILSON AND SHIRLEY BASSEY, TWO GREAT FEMALE SINGERS WHO LENT AN AIR OF STYLE AND SOPHISTICATION TO THEIR MUSIC. BUT THEY PALE IN COMPARISON TO EARTHA KITT, WHO ALWAYS HAD AN AIR OF MYSTERY ABOUT HER, AND SANG IN MANY DIFFERENT LANGUAGES, WAS A TRUE CHARTREUSE AND HAD AN INIMITABLE STYLE. THIS CD IS FANTASTIC, WITH GREAT ARRANGEMENTS ACCOMPANYING HER. HEY GUYS! WANT TO GET LUCKY WITH YOUR DATE TONIGHT? JUST PUT THIS BABY ON AND LET NATURE RUN ITS' COURSE."
